MASON - DIXON LINE
The Mason - Dixon Line (a.k.a. Mason's and Dixon's Line) was a line surveyed in 1763 and 1767 by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon. First used as a resolution for the dispute of state borders, the line was then used for the cultural boundary of the north and south. Later, towards the Civil War Period, Delaware became a state of the south because they were a slave state and fighting for slavery.

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS:
1) 5,000 Miles to Freedom - A book by national geographic that focuses on the main story of two slaves and their adventures through the Underground railroad, but also focuses on slaves in general with lots of pictures, diagrams, maps, and other primary sources. This book is at a high level with a medium length.
2) Dear Austin, - Being a quick read, this historical fiction gives the reader a basic idea of what the underground railroad was through a series of letters written by a runaway child slave. This book is very short and is very easy to read.
3) Anthony Burns - This book is a biography of an escaped slave, who is then caught by the owner and goes to trial. This book explains the people and their sides who are for and against the Fugitive Slave Acts.
